Letting out a sigh, the girl stared skyward, noting the darkness, preparation for the rain. The light rumble of thunder in the distance, confirmed what Max already expected. Rain... Just like that night, over a year ago... Although she had forgotten everything, she had managed to keep the memories of that night. The pain and fear she had felt, it was all very clear to this day. Despite her flashbacks and the few things that she recognized, this was the one thing she'd never forget.
"They made sure of that..."
Max spoke to nothing, her tone softer than most had ever heard her speak before. Pushing her hands into the pockets of her jeans, the girl continued to move forward. Oddly enough, for once max had a destination, but the place where she'd end up, would make most think that she was a complete fool... A loud crack of thunder, and a flash of lightning made Max shift her grey eyes up again. As if on cue, the rain began to fall in a light drizzle.
"...too close for comfort..."
She verbalized her thoughts, seeing as this street was familiar, as much as this weather was. Why exactly was she doing this? Max was hoping to unlock more of her hidden secrets. Although so far, she hadn't found her memories to be the most joyful. The girl had no fears of going back there, even though it was still of possible danger. Shrugging away the thought, she continued forward, shifting her black beret. Izzy was safe at home with his brother. Of course the kid didn't go without a struggle, as he always did. One of the many things she didn't understand, why did this child take such an interest in some girl that didn't even know her name? And why did Izzy always bother her about that weird card game? She knew nothing about it, and wanted to keep it that way...
"Ugh, that kid really knows how to get to me..."
Max grumbled to herself, although her tone remained soft. Really, with so much on her mind Izzy had managed to wiggle his way to the front of her mind. Joy... she'd finally managed to get a few moments on her own and the kid was still getting on her nerves, whether he was here or not. Max sighed again, pulling her black jacket tighter, though it still flowed freely behind her. Pulling along the empty street, she nodded to herself, Max continued keeping the same pace. This road was one of the busier ones in town, but with the rain, and the evening that drew nearer, people went inside their homes, meeting with their families and loved ones... She shook her head, and narrowed her eyes.
Phoenix didn't want to allow herself to be envious of these people, she had been when all of this had started, back when everything was even more confusing then today, back when Max had first made her way back into this world, with only that one memory. Sure those people had others who cared for them, but she didn't need that, all she had wanted was to learn, and become stronger, and Phoenix had managed to start this quest with no one by her side... That wasn't true, although Max would never admit it aloud to anyone, she had Izzy, although he was just a young child, he was her inspiration. Along with the kid, she had 'the Shadow' her protector, the large canine, that always followed her, much like Izzy, but not as annoying. That creature, knew her past, and held it behind those dark eyes, if only she could connect with the canine, but that was beyond impossible.
A hard shudder, wracked her bones, as her eyes met with that old musty building. This place had been used for a hiding spot, though those thugs were experts at 'hide and seek'. Max would face her demons head on, no fear, no hesitation, if only that were true. As always she held that quiet strength about her, but looks can be deceiving, and Phoenix was no exception to this. Her sharp silver gaze, roamed over the building, knowing all of those little details, broken windows, everything she could pin point from that day. Even simple details of the old warehouse, remained clear as day in Max's mind. Never allowing her to forget why she knew nothing, of even her true name. This day would strengthen her, even if she didn't learn anything else of her mysterious past...
"Hmm?"
Grey eyes looked down, as she felt the tug upon her jacket. A weak smile pulled at her lips, as Max stroked 'Shadow's' head. The canine stared up at her, the creature's eyes were soft, and meaningful.
"You still remember too, don't you?"
Max asked the 'Shadow' softly. Of course she knew, if the canine hadn't been there, then Max wouldn't be here today... Shaking her head, she pulled from the creature's hold, and stared toward the large doors. The 'Shadow' whimpered softly, pausing for a moment, before quickly following after her master. She trusted Max, but she didn't trust anyone in this town, not anymore...
Moving slowly, Max's jeans continued to drag along the smooth, cold concrete floors of the old building. She looked around carefully, as if studying an old relic, as if this was a good memory, and it didn't hold so much pain and fear. The canine shook her head. This was dangerous, what if it was revealed due to her presence? In this form, she was powerless, unable to help her master if something like that went wrong, 'the shadow' wasn't concerned about Max being jumped again, this time she wasn't weak, and could defend the girl...
Moving even slower then her master, the canine's head was low, as was her body. Though she'd used damn near all of her magic to conceal it, 'the shadow' could still feel the very faint presence of the object, making her want to leave right away, just in case her magic had already begun to wear off... Growling lightly to herself, she continued to move, her eyes roaming around the building, but she kept glancing back to Max, just for safety's sake...
"Hmm... I guess I got my hopes up..."
The orange haired girl mumbled to herself, still moving along the moldy cardboard boxes, and yellowing papers... Letting off a sigh, Max stopped, leaning against the cool wall. Her gray eyes continued to move along the building, she could almost hear them... The laughs of pathetic fools, that had no life, so they used their free time to harm others... Max shuddered, it was still hard to think about, no matter whether she had gotten over it or not, that could never make remembering that any easier for her. Looking to the canine, she gave a slight grin, noticing as her ears flicked attentively, and she moved close to the floor.
"You must be ready to go, huh?"
She spoke, reaching out to stroke her companions head, though 'the shadow' payed hardly any attention to the girl. Nodding slowly, Max pushed from the wall and began toward the large, doors that stood permanently jarred, from the rusted hinges. Moving a only slightly faster then she had entered, the girl smiled, as the canine joining her side, seeming almost back to normal. She stopped, as something caught the corner of her grey eyes. Max lifted her brow and turned, stepping forward. 'The shadow' gave a slight whimper, as she took one step and lifted her front paw cautiously. Let's go... Now... she pleaded in her mind...

[Um, I was bored, and I decided to start up a short story about Phoenix. It isn't finished of course, seeing as she still has a flashback to endure... Oops, I've said to much... *innocent grin.* Anyway, pardon any mistakes, since this was typed up really quick...>.<]
