Amethyst eyes slowly gazed over the park as a young boy poked his head out from behind a tree. A sharp pain became know in his head making him grunt in pain and hold the side of his head, slightly pulling at the tri colored locks of his hair before the pain faded away.
What was that about? he thought silently before shaking his head, he tried to remember anything of improtance but was only met with a wave of pain which made his groan again. Deciding not to try and remember anything he moved from behind the tree and began to wander.
He fliddled with the golden pyramid puzzle around his neck silently as he walked, the item held some signifigance but he couldn't remember what it was anymore. Shrugging it off he pressed on. He couldn't remember much anymore, even if he tried all that he got was a wave of pain so he kept his mind from wandering much these days.
Sighing the teen continued on before finding a lonely bench at the edge of the woods, sitting tiredly he continued to stare at the puzzle around his neck with faint interest.

Moving slowly, Max kicked at a rock, pushing it only a foot away. She was free for an entire week! Izzy wouldn't be around for a week, to go do something, that she could care less about. And since the kid had been gone, she could have been more insanely... bored. Yeah, thats right, she was bored, nothing at all to do. No one to try and ignore, no one to yell at for rummaging through her stuff, nothing to do. How is that some kid could do this to her? Honestly, it was times like these she wished she had someone...
No, don't even start with that. Phoenix needed no one, except for her canine companion, and herself. How long would the girl keep lying to herself? As long as she possibly could. Since one of her most recent flashbacks, which had been provoked by none other than the kid, Max had a lot more on her mind. Like, where was that place? And who was that person? But most of all, she wanted to know, since when had she been a duelist? Man, this stuff was just really starting to tick her off, she pretty much despised that game, and nearly everyone who played it. That was the problem, why had she started this random act of hatred? When she first saw a deck after the incident, Max had gotten a horrible vibe, of pain, and sorrow from those cards, but what was this sensation, why did she feel that?
Max groaned, and stopped, to lean against a tree. Now she was just confusing herself, and fighting with her own mind. Wait, was that even possible? Great... just great... Allowing her head, and eyes to droop, she placed her hands into the pockets of her long black coat. The girl remained like that for a while, causing 'the Shadow' to draw up beside her.
A sudden sensation made Max look, up, being pulled from the depths of her mind. Staring straight across form her, the boy sat there, with a rather large necklace. Her brow furrowed, as Max pushed away from the tree, she couldn't help but notice how familiar this kid seemed, and the odd vibe she was getting from him. Was he part of her past life? Did he know anything about her, possibly her name? She couldn't pass up the chance... Stepping in front of him, with 'the shadow' close behind her, Max paused, her grey gaze drawn to those large innocent eyes. No better way to get info, then to be straight foward...
"...Eh... Do I possibly know you?"
[couldn't help myself, seeing as they oddly enough have a lot in common... O.o Anyway, the first two paragraphs, aren't all that important, if you don't feel like reading the whole thing... xD]

The boy, Yugi, Looked up and blinked his innocent Violet orbs at her for a moment before snapping out of his reviere to procces her question. Did he know her? He couldn't tell anymore...he didn't seem to know anyone anymore other then himself and it frustrated him to no end.
"No...I don't think so." he replied as his gaze turned back down to the puzzle.
He felt a special vibe off the golden piece, a vibe that made him very protective of the pyramid shaped piece around his neck, his grip tightened on the cool gold of the puzzle trying to remember why it held such importance and value to him.

Max let out a sigh. Damn, yet another let down in her life. Okay, enough of the pity party, pity is a pointless reaction, or emotion, whatever you consider it to be. Pity for yourself, and others helps no one, ever... Clearing her throat, she closed her eyes for a moment.
"Ah, I see... Sorry for my intrusion..."
Woah, as Max just polite? She must really be losing it... No, it was just something about this boy, that was just... Different... The only word she could seem to use for this situation. Turning to leave, she stopped herself, her gaze falling on the over sized necklace that the boy wore. That thing... what was with it... Phoenix could feel it, but it was giving off some unreadable sensation... Involuntarily, Max, reached up and stroked her own choker, and looked up into the boy's gentle eyes.
"May I ask, what is your name?"
She asked, her tone serious, as if there was some unknown urgency... A sudden tension, made Max look down at the large canine, that had moved to her side. 'The shadow', stared at the puzzle, almost mesmerized. Now this was weird, she placed a hand on the creature's head, as 'the shadow' stepped toward Yugi. The canine stopped, but continued staring at the necklace...

Yugi blinked and then noticed 'The shadow'. He didn't even blink at the creature let alone seem fazed by it, turning his amethyst toward max yet again he spoke.
"Yugi." he replied while noticing the creature gaze at the puzzle making him unconciously pull the large item closer to his and hold it tighter in his grip. He didn't know why he was protective of this puzzle, all he knew was that he had to keep it safe and, more importantly, whole.

Max nodded slowly, as she stepped in front of the large canine, pushing the shadow back, to sit behind her, though her attention never deterred from the puzzle. At this moment, the creature wished just as much as Max, that they could communicate, as always the shadow knew the secrets, these things that her master had to yet to learn, or remember... At least for now... If only that damn spirit... Ah forget it... 'The shadow' shook her head, and remained still, waiting to see what her master's plan was. Phoenix paused, before finally replying, feeling a need to stay here and speak with this boy, he had to be connected to something in her past, somehow...
"Hello Yugi... Ah, if it makes any difference, you can call me Max, or whatever best suits you..." Or even, nosy, seeing as I keep bothering you... Max thought, deciding not to verbalize that thought... Looking around, still slightly unsure, about all of this, but she felt pushed to keep talking, to find out about that necklace... Why did some short kid, with an over-sized pyramid on his neck, mean anything to her? Shaking her head, she shifted her weight again. Well, it's not like Max had anything better to do right now... Clearing her throat, Phoenix sighed.
"...Might I ask about... that?"
The girl spoke carefully, as she motioned to the necklace, trying not to sound intrusive, but then again...

Yugi blinked and turned his eyes toward her as the grip on the puzzle tightened further to the point his knuckles turned white, he let out a slow sigh. Man things were becoming mor and more confusing...He didn't even know why he had the puzzle...he just did.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts he loosened his grip on the puzzle slightly.
"I...don't really remember much....I don't remember how i got it or what it even really is....but i don't want to part from it either." he murmured as his fingers twitched on the golden piece.

Max's silver gaze was on the ground, but shot straight up to the boy once he had spoken. What? He didn't remember? Major deja vu here, not only the weird little pyramid thingy, but this kid-- Well he had lost some memory at lest from what she'd heard. Shaking her head, Max sighed. Nah, she musta' been takin' this a little too far, but there was no way that she could let this die, even though Max wanted to...
"You- you don't remember?" She paused, and let out her breath deeply, "Man, I can relate..."
She murmured to herself, not quite sure about everything that was goin' on. First, Max had been drawn to this kid, then 'the shadow' became glued to that necklace, but now this guy forgot some things, just as she had? Either that, or he just had a bad memory, which Phoenix didn't doubt... The canine moved slightly, still staring. The millennium puzzle... Long time no see...
[ooh, yay for secret plotness! xD]

The boy sighed softly and looked to the puzzle, his fingers moved slowly over the golden piece like it was the most precious thing in th world too him, he didn't know why he felt so strongly for this puzzle but he wish he knew. It felt like half of his soul was weeping and missing something that it wanted back desperatly.
Shaking his head he hugged the puzzle to him quietly "I don't know why.....all i can remember is my name and age....nothing else." he murmuered sadly as he held the puzzle to his chest.

"Mmm..."
That was her only reaction to what Yugi had said. This was odd, he was almost exactly like, her, that was except he only remembered his name, and Max only remembered why she had forgotten. Ironic? Hell yeah... God, she could connect to Yugi, more that she could have suspected... Leaning back slightly, Max sighed.
"Well... I can sympathize... and empathize... I know how it feels not to know, but ya gotta try... Just think, someone out there, may be lookin' for ya, somebody who can tell you, everything..."
Max stopped herself, deciding that she was as near to spilling her guts to this stranger, as she felt needed. She hardly opened up to Izzy, the only person that remotely even knew her. Shifting her weight, she groaned, here she was sounding like some cheesy sitcom, but it was true... Even though, Max didn't think like that, seeing as she had her own feelings toward anyone that might know something about her, but that wasn't the point right now... The canine's ears twitched slightly, as she stared up at the Yugi's innocent eyes, which held such sadness, this all made her wonder...

He said nothing but nodded slowly as he held the puzzle to him gently, that pain in his heart grew worse. He had a bond with this puzzle, a bond he desperatly wanted to remember but alas it was usless.
Sighing he he only stared ahead and remained silent.

Max nodded, and sighed, turning to leave again.
"Well, hope I was of some help... See ya later, maybe next time, we'll both know a little more."
She spoke in a low tone, and began to move slowly away from the kid. Wait... Whoa, now she was giving up too easy... Ugh... The shadow let out a growl at Phoenix, before drawing closer to Yugi. Her master had to learn eventually, and the canine was getting rather annoyed by her lack of knowledge, and this kid... This kid remembered nothing? No spirits, or how he became the rightful owner of the puzzle? Of course the creature wouldn't let this go, this was the closest Max had gotten to some of her answers...
Letting out a soft whimper, dark eyes moved to the boy, as she lowered herself slightly. 'The shadow' moved closer to Yugi, and rested her head on the boy's knee, her gaze never leaving his. Don't worry, I'm on your side... She cooed, although only in her mind. Max turned and stared at her companion. That was odd, since when did she trust anyone, at all?
"... Shadow?" She asked, not quite sure how else to call the canine...

Don't worry, I'm on your side...
Yugi blinked as that voice rang in his head, he blinked and looked to the shadow with slight wonder, slowly he lifted a hand and gntly stroked her on the head gently as he paused and then tried to talk back through his own mind
/Who....are you?/ he asked a bit timidly.

The canine pulled back only slightly, as Yugi had responded. He had heard her? That was all the proof she needed, this boy had in fact completed the puzzle. But if he did that, then of course the spirit should have been there, except if that were the case, than she would have sensed him right away... Odd...
A friend, a protector, and a teacher...
She replied, her eyes still locked with his, her head now lifted. As for a name, that wasn't important, in fact, her name hadn't been used for god knows how long... Back to the matter at hand...er, paw... Taking a deep breath, the shadow continued to ignore her master.
I want to help you... But I need to know, everything you do.
Her tone deep, and reassuring, though the canine could use a little reassurance as well, seeing as there wasn't much she could do as of now. The shadow was even surprised she had managed to contact the boy, then again, that might prove useful... Max stood, her brow raised as she watched the two, man this was spooky...

Yugi paused as he stared at her quietly, everything he does? What did she mean by that? He didn't even know himself as far as he knew...he couldn't even remember anyone other then himself for gods sake
/What do you mean?/ he thought to her confusedly, this was odd to him and yet having another voice in his head was strangly familier.
